PUJOL HARRIS founder Sir Leonard Spencer was born in Oxfordshire, on 9 February 1874, at which time the United Kingdom was the dominant world power. His family were among the highest levels of the British aristocracy and thus he was born into the country´s elite. In September 1884 he moved to Institute Le Rosey in Switzerland; there, his academic performance improved but he continued to misbehave and he decided that he wanted to resume his studies in Britain. He narrowly passed the entrance exam which allowed him to begin studies at the elite Harrow School in April 1888. There, his academics remained high—he excelled particularly in history—but teachers complained that he was to outspoken, unpunctual and careless. He wrote poetry and letters which were published in the school magazine and won fencing competitions.

Although his parents insisted that Sir Leonard Spencers be prepared for a career in politics his ideologically and main interest laid within fashion, photography, art and music. He was also an obsessed book collector and perfumer. He used his fine sense of smell, skill and intuition to produce characteristic olfactory compositions beyond compare. 

As a leader of an archaeological team together with Romulus Rothschild to the remote island of Tristan da Cunha in 1904, Sir Leonard Spencer collected extracts of lavender, bay, rosemary, pine and cardamom in tiny translucent alabaster bottles and kept them as ingredients in his characteristic luxurious scents. The traces Sir Leonard Spencer found in the Posidonia Oceanica plants on the south of the island where more than 80,000 years old and the extracts he collected from them became the base for most of Sir Leonard Spencers perfumes. The scents Sir Leonard Spencer created during his many expeditions received a mythological status among PUJOL HARRIS clients as they deified his extraordinary nose. 

While studying abroad at the University of Karueein, founded in 859 AD in Fez, Morocco, he often visited one of the most renowned leather tanneries in the world. The personal dedication they showed to the raw material inspired him to start designing leather goods and first made GARBO dog leash.

For Sir Leonard Spencer, creating goods was an intimate process. Before deciding on aroma, leather grain or thickness, he thought about how a design will be used and where it will be worn. The idea for PUJOL HARRIS arose to Sir Leonard Spencer in a dream during a expedition to Vrederot Dome in 1908.
